Volunteer Food Program Assistant
We are URGENTLY looking for volunteers to support our food programme on 2 Mar, 3 March, 6 March and 7 March (from 7AM to 10:30AM) to be our volunteer food program assistant. Your donation of time and expertise will be truly appreciated.
DATES/TIME
- 2 March, 3 March, 6 March and 7 March (from 7AM to 10:30AM) [3.5-hour shift] . If volunteers are available, the volunteering period could be further extended.
DUTIES
- Lifting boxes up to 50lbs
- Sorting food for distribution, occasionally picking up and delivering provisions with our colleague(s)
- Assisting in Food Market Distribution, duties include organizing and displaying food provisions, weighing and recording food, guiding neighbours through the market, and offering options suitable to their needs/culture
- Preparing breakfast on Friday morning for up to 80 neighbours for a sit-down meal, serving breakfast, cleaning dishes/kitchen
- Preparing emergency hampers, organizing food areas, creating relationships with neighbours through surveys to better serve them, and discovering their needs/wants(potential opportunity for the pathway of hope)

Description
411 Seniors Centre requires Screeners to provide support to the free Income Tax Clinic by assessing the eligibility criteria of low-income seniors and people with disabilities.The Income Tax Clinic will run from March 06 to April 27, 2023. Volunteers are asked to commit for the entire tax season.
Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one day a week, between Monday and Thursday, for the hours of 9:45 am to 2:00 pm for both months.
Attendance at a CVITP webinar and orientation in February (dates TBA) are mandatory.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Good communication skills and an empathetic manner
- Reliable, organized and detail-oriented
- Ability to work as part of a team with volunteers, clients and staff
- Knowledge of other language(s) is helpful
BENEFITS & RECOGNITION

- DELIVERABLES/DUTIES
- Determine eligibility of clients for the free income tax clinic
- Organize T4 slips and other forms as necessary
- Assist other tax volunteers as required
- Refer clients to Information and Referral Volunteers for additional assistance if needed
- Observe good ethical skills and maintain client confidentiality
- Follow policies and procedures for the 411-taxation clinic
- Filing and other various administrative duties
- Notify Coordinator of planned absences

Friday morning
Volunteer shift (from 6:30AM to 9AM)
Main Responsibilities
- Assist with cooking and preparing a freshly made meal in the morning
- Support and communicate any problems to the food coordinator
- Build a community with neighbours through conversation and discipleship
- Cleaning the multipurpose room at the end of the shift may be needed
Friday mornings
Volunteer shift (from 8:30AM to 10:30AM)
Main duties:
- Sanitize and wipe all tables at the venue during the Breakfast time
- Assist in washing dishes
- Assist in cleaning the multi-purpose room after the breakfast connect program
- Educate neighbours to categorise the garbage and leftovers into different bins
- Work and communicate closely with the food coordinator
- Build a community with neighbours through conversation and discipleship
Friday mornings
Volunteer Shift: Fridays (from 8:45AM to 10:30AM)
Major Duties:
- Sanitize and wipe all tables at the venue during the Breakfast time
- Greet neighbours and assist with serving food
- Assist with organising and bagging food
- Support and communicate any problems to the food coordinator
- Build a community with neighbours through conversation and discipleship
- Clean the multipurpose room at the end of the shift may be needed
Friday Mornings
Volunteer Shift: Friday mornings from 8:45AM to 10:30AM
Major Duties:
- Warmly greet and welcome all arriving neighbours in different languages as
- needed
- Direct them to the Coat Check Counter/their dining tables/the food station as
- needed
- Answer enquiries about the breakfast connect program
- Follow the safety and emergency rules and regulations of the Salvation Army
- Approach and develop good relationships with neighbours in a safe and friendly
- Provide hand sanitizer and masks to the neighbours
Every Tuesday and Thursday
Volunteer shifts: from 8:30AM to 10:30AM
Main Responsibilities:
- Help pack and sort food for the food program
- Interact with neighbours in a safe and friendly manner
- Provide neighbours with food
- Communicate closely with food coordinator to assist in giving food out
- Carrying and handling food which may involve some lifting jobs
Every Tuesday and Thursday (since Jan 10, 2023)
Volunteer shift: from 11AM to 1PM
Major Duties:
- Interact with neighbours and help them select and carry food in accordance with
- their preference
- Communicate closely with food coordinator to assist in giving food out
- Help pack and sort food for the food program
- Carrying and handling food which may involve some lifting jobs

Boundless Vancouver is delighted to provide volunteer opportunities to all age groups. All applicants under the age of 19 must be approved by a guardian. We may require adult (parent or guardian) supervision while volunteering.
Volunteer shifts tend to be upwards of 3 hours. You are more than welcome to contribute more!
Our volunteer shifts are based on operational needs,
availability of the volunteers, and seasonal event requirement.
Yes, each volunteer will receive training and orientation specific to their volunteer roles.
Wherever possible, volunteers will be given opportunities to attend workshops/seminars relating to the volunteer's area of interest for further advancement.
