Volunteer Opportunities - Nourishing Hope Program

Our Nourishing Hope Program aims to nourish hope in the lives of those in our community by meeting practical needs. Everyone deserves healthy, appropriate food received through a dignifying experience. Your support as our Food Sorting Volunteers is much appreciated.
Date: Every Monday to Friday
Time: from 7:30AM till the end of the market (around 12:30/1PM)
Location: 3213 Fraser Street, Vancouver BC V5V 4B8
Requirements and qualifications:
- Consent to TSA submitting a Criminal Records Check (There is NO fee for this check)
- Be able to communicate in English
- Above the age of 19 (Volunteers under the age of 19 must be accompanied by their legal guardians during volunteering)
- A genuine interest in helping the families in need
- Good listening and communication skills. Being patient, respectful and understanding.
- Maintain confidentiality about all personal information
- Carry out the position in a conscientious, courteous and safe manner
- Have cultural awareness and sensitivity
- Be able to lift and carry items up to 50lbs
- Sort and pack food
- Perform as a Personal shopper to assist families in need in selecting food and grocery items according to their needs and preferences
- Assist in setting up and cleaning up
- Be able to lift and carry items up to 50lbs
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the food program manager

Date: Every day (from Monday to Friday)
Time: from around 6:45 to 10:45 AM (4-hour shift)
Location: 3213 Fraser Street
Requirements:
- Consent to TSA submitting a Criminal Records Check (There is NO fee for this check).
- Be able to communicate in English.
- Above the age of 19 (Volunteers under the age of 19 must be accompanied by their legal guardians during volunteering).
- A genuine interest in helping families in need.

- Carry out the position in a conscientious, courteous, and safe manner.
- Have cultural awareness and sensitivity.
- Be able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
- (Only for drivers) Hold a valid driver's license (You will be asked to provide a copy of your Driver's License)

Major Duties:
- Collect food donations from designated donors, including supermarkets and restaurants.
- Safely transport food items to the NHM location.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of food during transportation.
- Assist in unloading and organizing donations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the food program manager."

Date: Weekdays (from Monday to Friday)
Time: Morning shift from 8:30 to 12:30, afternoon shift from 12:30 to 16:00
Location: 3213 Fraser Street
Requirements:
- Consent to TSA submitting a Criminal Records Check (There is NO fee for this check).
- Be able to communicate in English.
- Above the age of 19 (Volunteers under the age of 19 must be accompanied by their legal guardians during volunteering).
- Good listening and communication skills; patient, respectful, and understanding.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Maintain confidentiality about all personal information.
- Carry out the position in a conscientious, courteous, and safe manner.
- Have cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Major Duties:
- Greet visitors warmly and provide general information about programs and services.
- Answer phone calls and direct inquiries appropriately.
- Assist with light administrative tasks such as data entry or filing.
- Stock and organize the fridge with fresh food items.
- Clean and sanitize the fridge to ensure it meets hygiene standards.
- Retrieve food items for families participating in food programs.
- Maintain a tidy and organized front desk and food distribution area.
- Perform other front desk or food program-related duties as assigned by the program coordinator.
Volunteer Opportunities - Weekly Community Brunch (Thursday)

Boundless Vancouver hopes to provide a welcoming and safe place of warmth and joy to our neighbours of diverse cultural backgrounds who feel isolated, separated and lonely to drop in, enjoy meals, feel connected with each other and get supported by our staff and volunteers.
Program Date & Time: Every Thursday (from 11AM to 12PM )
Volunteer Shifts: From 9AM to 12:30PM (3.5 hours) on Thursday
Location: 3213 Fraser Street, Vancouver BC V5V 4B8
No. of volunteers needed : 2-3
Major Duties:
- Assist with cooking and preparing a freshly made meal in the morning Support and communicate any problems to the food coordinator
- Build a community with neighbours through conversation and discipleship Serve food to neighbours according to their preference
- Clean the kitchen at the end of the shift may be needed
- Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills Able to communicate in English
- Basic Cooking and Cleaning Skills
- Be flexible and cooperative
- (Optional) Attend the food safety training course
- Volunteers who have not reached his/her age of majority (19 years of age) must first have the written consent of a parent or a guardian.

Major Duties:
- Use and clean the dishwashers under the supervision from our Food Program Manager, Pam
- Sanitize and wipe all tables at the venue during the meal time Sanitize and wipe all chairs at the venue at the end of the program
- Assist in washing dishes (a dishwasher is available)
- Assist in cleaning the multi-purpose room after the meal time
- Educate neighbours to categorise the garbage and leftovers into different bins Work and communicate closely with the food coordinator
- Build a community with neighbours through conversation and discipleship
- Able to communicate in English
- Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills Basic Cooking and Cleaning Skills
- Be flexible and cooperative
- (Optional) Attend the food safety training course

- Setting up the tables and chairs
- Clear dishes from tables
- Wipe down tables and chairs (Sanitize and wipe all tables at the venue during the meal time Sanitize and wipe all chairs at the venue at the end of the program)
- Scrape all food off of plates into strainer
- Take discarded food to the compost bin
- Throw garbage into bins
- Sweep and mop any large spills
- Assist in cleaning the multi-purpose room after the meal time
- Educate neighbours to categorise the garbage and leftovers into different bins Work and communicate closely with the food coordinator
- Support and communicate any problems to the Food Program Manager, Pamela Burt
- Build a community with neighbours through conversation and discipleship

- Warmly greet and welcome all arriving neighbours in different languages as needed
- Direct them to the Coat Check Counter/their dining tables/the food station as needed
- Follow the safety and emergency rules and regulations of the Salvation Army Approach and develop good relationships with neighbours in a safe and friendly manner
- Provide hand sanitizer and masks to the neighbours as needed
- Help sanitize and wipe all tables at the venue during and after the meal time
- Able to communicate in English

- Be flexible and cooperative

We greatly appreciate all who are interested in being a volunteer. It is also our responsibility to ensure the safety of our staff, volunteers
and neighbours whom might be part of vulnerable groups including children.
Boundless Vancouver is delighted to provide volunteer opportunities to all age groups. All applicants under the age of 19 must be approved by a guardian. We may require adult (parent or guardian) supervision while volunteering.
Volunteer shifts tend to be upwards of 3 hours. You are more than welcome to contribute more!
Our volunteer shifts are based on operational needs,
availability of the volunteers, and seasonal event requirement.
Yes, each volunteer will receive training and orientation specific to their volunteer roles.
Wherever possible, volunteers will be given opportunities to attend workshops/seminars relating to the volunteer's area of interest for further advancement.
