The Start of Something Great

Hope Stories

In November 2015, Mohit Sodhi and Lindsay Richter founded YNOTFORTOTS. The non-profit organization was created to “enrich the lives of children by providing them with access to the educational and recreational resources they need and deserve.” The motivation that led Sodhi and Richter to pursue co-founding YNOTFORTOTS was from a course at UBC. “Lindsay and I were in our fourth year of undergrad at UBC when we both took an elective class on the social determinants of health. In that class, we learned that 1 in 5 kids in BC lives in poverty, with that number being even higher depending on the particular area. We also learned how early life experiences, and in particular, how education, influences success later on in life. Being scientists, we both wanted to address the issue in the most direct way possible. This was to address the need head-on, and help those students who need it most by having a conversation with school principals, teachers, and parents to see what students at their schools need the most.” When Boundless Vancouver reached out to Sodhi to ask if they would partner in the 2019 Back to School Fair, he instantly agreed. “The Salvation Army’s goals for the fair aligned exactly with ours; you were addressing a direct need to help students and families in our local communities who need it the most.” – Sodhi Sodhi and Richter have much to be proud of, but they are most proud of the significant reach of their organization. “We are most proud of the number of students and schools we’ve helped since our inception in the winter of 2015. To date, we have helped over 7300 local elementary school students, 23 different schools or pediatric organizations, and have collected and/or donated over $157,000 worth of items.” For Boundless Vancouver to have partnered with YNOTFORTOTS is momentous. With the expertise and outreach of the two organizations, the results are dynamic and compelling. “We [were] excited to see the students and families, of course! It is always nice to see how our and our donors’ efforts come to fruition. Seeing the kids excited about and using our donations really melts our hearts!” Thank you to YNOTFORTOTS for being a major contribution to the success of our Back to School Fair, 2019.
