Let’s chat! with David

Street Spotlights

Let’s Chat! is a conversational series where we are in conversation with some of our remarkable volunteers and seasonal staff about their experience with The Salvation Army and our Ministry Unit, Boundless Vancouver. Read along as we deep dive into who they are and how they found their community here at Boundless Vancouver.

David, who loves listening to Christian music, playing guitar and volunteering, had always wanted to continue doing something meaningful for his community. So, when he heard about The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver’s Toy Drive that would help underprivileged children and families, he knew he had found his calling. Every Friday afternoon during the Christmas season, as our Toy Drive Volunteer, he would spend several hours at the counter, greeting customers and inviting them to donate toys to the needy families. When he was asked about his volunteer experience, he cheerfully replied,

“I remember when I was first volunteering, at the Christmas Toy Drive Counter at ToysRUs, a sweet, kind and generous grandmother bought several toys to donate to Boundless Vancouver and wanted me to be in photos she took with her grandsons, as they put the toys into the donation box. It is such a wonderful and unforgettable volunteer experience for me! “

Over time, David became more involved and began to develop a strong bond with us.  He served in the front desk when we were giving out clothing vouchers to neighbours and then he also became one of our regular volunteers at our Breakfast Connect Program, working as a community greeter. “I love being a volunteer at Boundless Vancouver because Jesus motivates me to help others and give my time for His purpose.”  David added. He was especially touched when he saw how the homeless people enjoyed hot meals and coffee, chatting with other neighbors in the community.  David shared one of his favourite bible verses with us,

“ John 16:33 (KJV) These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. (Our Hope, Joy, Peace, & Real Life can only be found in our Savior and Friend, Jesus!)”

“I am always greatly satisfied after volunteering because even though I’m giving my time to serve Boundless Vancouver, I am also giving my time to serve Jesus!” David said. Through his volunteering, David found a sense of purpose and fulfillment as he knew that he was making a real difference in the lives of these vulnerable people, and that was all the motivation he needed to keep going.

Thank you so much for volunteering with us, David!
