An Impactful Backpack
Hope Stories
Children have the opportunity to receive supplies for the upcoming school year at the Back to School Fair on August 22. Lisa and her daughter were assisted last year. “The last time we got it, they provided it through the camp session and it was a very big surprise for us,” she said. Lisa appreciated receiving the supplies because there were items she had forgotten to purchase for the upcoming school year. It’s a program she would suggest others to use since it is easy for parents to overlook certain items. “When my daughter got hers through the camp, she was so happy about it,” said Lisa. “The impact was the backpack itself.” Each year, the Salvation Army provides back-to-school supplies for children and youth in need. However, this is the first year a Back to School Fair is being held. The fair will be located at Glad Tidings Church, 3456 Fraser Street, in the gymnasium from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. The event will feature a variety of activities including local organization’s booths, delicious food, a Super Girl and a bouncy castle. During the event, children and youth, along with their families will be provided a passport to collect stickers for each of the booths. Once the passports are filled, they can visit the school supply “store” and pick out the school supplies they need. Each family must register for the fair, so make sure to register early!
